While people have differing opinions, the guiding principle is to select a frame shape which will give the face a sense of symmetry and balance by emphasizing and de-emphasizing particular features. For example, a round frame will de-emphasize a square shaped face.
Progressive lenses have 3 main focus areas. Distance, intermediate and near. In order to maximise the view of each of these zones the frame needs to be deep enough to fit them all in. We recommend you choose a frame which is at least 25mm deep and in which your eyes are sitting above half way, ideally your eyes should be about 2/3 toward the top of the frame when looking into the distance.
It is important to keep your eyewear clean both for clarity of vision and to protect them. Most scratches occur when dust that is caught in the rim of your glasses is rubbed on the lens. Therefore we recommend that you wash your glasses with luke warm soapy water and dry them with a clean cloth or tissue. This will remove any oil and dirt that may have built up reducing the risk of scratches and protecting your frame from corrosion.
Secondly a good lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth will give your lenses a superior clean after they have been washed and will help to stop dust sticking to them.
Unfortunately scratches are permanent, which is why a good cleaning regime is so important. Your prescription is made of precise curves and polishing your lenses would compromise your vision.
There is no fast rule regarding adaption to progressive lenses as there are many factors to consider. These may include the power of your lenses, what you have worn before and even what type of work you do. The important thing to remember is everybody is different, some people may feel comfortable straight away while others may take days or even a couple of weeks.
Hi-Index lenses are thinner and lighter than standard lenses. This is because the material is denser requiring less thickness to make your prescription. Most Hi-Index lenses are made of special curves called "aspheric" which also enables them to be thinner. Hi-Index lenses are mostly used for people with high prescriptions and they would definitely be beneficial if your prescription is over +/- 4.00.
Your Vision Select Hi-Index lenses also include an Anti-Reflection coating.
Photochromatic lenses have been around for a long time. Old Photochromatic lenses made of glass would work in the car, however since the change to safer /lighter plastic lenses nobody has been able to make them work in the car because of the UV filters on our windscreens.
Photochromatic lenses are very useful if you spend time going from inside to outside as you can get away without carrying your prescription sunglasses.
We recommend full prescription sunglasses for use in the car.
An Anti-Reflection coating looks like a colourful bloom on your lens when viewed in a certain light. This coating absorbs much of the reflected light from the lens making them clearer to look through.
The main advantages to this are seen when using them for night driving and computer use where you want to maximise the amount of light you receive making it easier to see.
Like Photochromatic, Progressive lenses have been around for over 20 years. If you have been wearing them for some time you will know that they continue to get better as technology advances. At Vision Select we have chosen 2 lens designs.
Premium Progressive: This has proved itself to be very popular. It is what we call a hard design lens which gives a clear distinction of the zones of view; you will easily see where the clear part of the lens is. If you are a previous progressive wearer you will most likely have worn this type of lens; it is suitable for existing progressive wearers.
Digital "Focus Plus" Progressive: Welcome to the Digital revolution. Digital lenses also known as "Freeform" are completely computer generated, incorporating the latest technology in progressive lens design. This design is softer than the Premium Progressive, meaning the zones blend together more. The inherent peripheral distortion of progressive lenses has been minimised making these the most comfortable and easiest progressive lenses to adapt to.
The main feature of the Digital "Focus Plus" lens is that the power is on the back of the lens. This brings it closer to your eye giving you the widest possible viewing area and is only available with this type of technology.
Digital "Focus Plus" Progressives are suitable for both new and existing wearers.
At Vision Select our aim is to bring prescription eyewear within reach of more people, many of which have never been able to afford prescription eyewear before. Vision Select glasses include single vision scratch resistant lenses, making it better value to buy a whole new pair than to put lenses in your existing frames.
We recommend that you have your eyes examined every 2 years for adults and every year for children. If however you are happy with your existing prescription we will happily make your new lenses from it.
We also give you a 45 day script change guarantee for your peace of mind.
When you go for an eye examination, the Optometrist will check the health of your eyes as well as check your vision. You should always ask your Optometrist for a copy of the prescription you have paid for. If you do not feel comfortable asking for it; don't worry. Your Pharmacy can help you obtain a copy by simply filling out a release form.
At Vision Select we aim to provide superior value and service. Your Vision Select lenses are made especially for you and will take 5-10 working days to deliver.
